Julie Ott

Ms. Ott graduated from Utah State University in 1994, her engineering experience has been focused on seismic risk analysis and retrofit design.  During this time Julie has been responsible for seismic analysis and retrofit projects of over thirty buildings listed on the National Historic Register. In addition Julie has had a vast array of experience working on seismic upgrades of buildings, design and renovation of: performing / fine arts centers, city halls, water treatment facilities, public safety buildings, courts, custom wood and log home, community centers, equestrian faculties, office buildings, primary and secondary education facilities.  Also Julie has personally investigated to effects of extreme load on multiple building types after earthquakes.

In addition to Ms. Ott's engineering responsibilities she is also the General Manger for ABS Consulting's Salt Lake City and Denver offices. Julie's office conducts work in Utah, the Intermountain area, and they also service several clients at there overseas facilities in the Asia, China, Japan, and Italy.

Julie has been very active in the engineering community and has served the Structural Engineers Association of Utah (SEAU) on the programs committee since 1995, structural licensing committee, 2-years on the board of directors, Vice-President, and severed as the 25^th President of SEAU.  In addition Julie spent two years on the Utah Engineers Council and is active in the National Association of Structural Engineers.

On February 15, 2008, in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol, Julie was named, by the Utah Engineers Council, the 2008 Utah Engineer of the year.

2008 Engineering Educator of the Year

Paul J. Tikasky, Ph.D., P.E., FACI
Chairman and Professor
University of Utah - Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr. Tikalsky received his bachelor's degree Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and his Masters and Doctorate in Civil/Structural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked for consulting firms in Green Bay, Austin, and Oakland.  Before accepting the appointment at the University of Utah, he spent 17-years teaching and mentoring students at Penn State University and Santa Clara University.  He also was a Research Fellow at the Czech National Academy of Science in Prague. He is registered professional engineering in the State of California.  Dr. Tikalsky leads research, teaching and outreach activities in the area of sustainable concrete materials and structural evaluation. His work focuses on the durability of concrete structures, the development of high performance cement materials, and the evaluation and performance of structures.  He is the Principal Investigator for FHWA Pooled Funded Study - Development of Performance Properties of Ternary Mixtures, and multiple industry based research projects. He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and served on its Board of Direction from 2004-2007 and is past chairman of several ACI Committees.  He is an active member of technical committees with ASTM and TRB. He serves on the FHWA High Performance Concrete Technology Implementation Task Force and a FHWA Engineering Expert Task Group for Concrete Technology.

Justin Nadauld, P.E.
Senior Engineer
Reaveley Engineers and Associates, Inc.

Justin Nadauld, P.E., is a Senior Engineer at Reaveley Engineers + Associates (RE+A). In the five years that Justin has been working for RE+A he has completed his Masters of Science Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Utah, and has obtained his Professional Engineering License. He has worked on several complex projects including the Utah State Capitol Base Isolation and the Salt Lake Tabernacle Seismic Upgrade. He is currently Project manager for several projects including Herriman High School and the United States District Courthouse- Salt Lake City. Justin has also been instrumental in developing the current office standard for the design and detailing of Special Concentrically Braced Frames and several in-house software programs for the analysis and design of building elements. Justin is the RE+A Masonry Specialist Group Leader and is responsible for updating, maintaining, and implementing RE+A masonry design procedures, software, detailing standards, general structural notes, and training of engineering staff.
